A Little Late: My tribute to President Corazon Aquino
Better late than never.
Former President Corazon Aquino died last Saturday after succumbing to colon cancer. I think most of you already knew the details. It’s all over the news nationwide and even worldwide.
Rather than dwell on her death, however, I would like to pay tribute to her legacy.
While President Cory will not be remembered as the best president in terms of steering the country to economical success, she will always be remembered as the mother of our country’s democracy. And while politics, even then were the motivation of some of the people that joined her cause, the EDSA revolution will always be remembered as the one time when almost everyone of us were very proud to be called a Filipino.
Skeptics will always say EDSA Revolution did not amount anything, and that our country is hopeless and that everything is the government’s fault and to some degree that might be true. But then again, since when did Skeptics have anything good to say? EDSA showed us that we can change the destiny of our nation, and we still can. It is only the drive that has been lost. And since then the cloud of negativity has largely engulfed our nation, giving rise to more skeptics along the way. Yes, skeptics do reproduce asexually :))
As for me, President Cory has left me but one simple legacy. That change, no matter how big should come from an individual. After all, there is no society without an individual.
